Old White Men Need to Step Aside for The Good of America

U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) wants President Joe Biden to do the "painful but necessary" thing and removethyself from the 2024 presidential race. In a statement, Doggett said:

Our overriding consideration must be who has the best hope of saving our democracy from an authoritarian takeover by a criminal and his gang.

This comes after Biden's lackluster performance in last week's debate against Donald Trump. Doggett is the first Congressional Democrat to publicly suggest Biden steps down, but he's not the only one with concerns. Democratic governors are also unsure about Biden's ability to win, especially with his age and perceived cognitive decline.

Woke Bottom Line:

Doggett knows what's up. Biden did America a solid by beating Trump in 2020, but it's time to pass the torch. We can't risk four more years of a Trump administration. Doggett referenced LBJ's decision not to run again in 1968, a tough call that exposed rifts within the Democratic Party over Vietnam but ultimately helped the party move forward. Biden should take a page from LBJ's book and put country over ego.
