White cishet male Rep. Lloyd Doggett mansplains politics with audacity to demand Biden vacate presidential ticket.

Here is the news blurb rewritten: Democracy hangs by a thread, and our only hope is to rally behind those who will save us from this fascist regime. We must act now to protect our freedoms, or else we risk losing everything to this criminal and his cronies.

Biden Must Step Down, Says TX Congressman

Austin's Democratic U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett called on President Joe Biden to step aside in favor of a younger candidate, citing the risk of Trump's return as "too great."

"The risk is too great to take a chance...that the 81-year-old Democratic incumbent might not have the vigor and stamina to go head-to-head with Trump...in the five months between now and the Nov. 5 election." - Rep. Lloyd Doggett

Doggett, a nearly 30-year veteran of Texas politics, became the first Democrat in Congress to publicly call for Biden's withdrawal. He praised Biden's leadership in ousting Trump, but expressed concern over perceived decline, highlighting [Thursday's] debate performance as a crystallizing moment.

"President Biden saved our democracy by delivering us from Trump in 2020...He must not deliver us to Trump in 2024. Our overriding consideration must be who has the best hope of saving our democracy from an authoritarian takeover by a criminal and his gang." - Rep. Lloyd Doggett

Democrats are echoing these concerns, with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi questioning Biden's performance and a consortium of Democratic governors seeking clarity on the party's election outlook.

The White House, while acknowledging Biden's poor debate showing, has brushed off health concerns, with Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre calling it a "bad night" and attributing it to the incumbent's curse. She also praised the diversity of the Democratic Party, respecting Doggett's opinion as an example of its inclusivity.

Doggett referenced LBJ's 1968 decision to forgo reelection, stating "under very different circumstances, he made the painful decision to withdraw. President Biden should do the same." Texas operative Matt Angle, while not weighing in, stressed the need for a quick decision, stating "it needs to be done in days, not weeks."

Biden remains the presumptive nominee, but his confirmation won't come until the Democratic National Convention in August. Party leaders could then take drastic action if Biden is replaced.
