SCOTUS Shamefully Shields Trump; Safe for Now, Future Prez Pre-emptively Pardoned?
As if we needed more proof that the Supreme Court is woke, John Roberts just served us the hottest clapback since Nixon thought he was above the law. Stephen Griffin, a Tulane law prof, knows the deal: This is Watergate's comeuppance.

In a disgusting display of right-wing bias, the Supreme Court rules that former presidents are immune from prosecution for official acts
In a disgusting display of partisan bias, the Supreme Court has ruled that presidents, including former president and wannabe dictator Donald Trump, are immune from prosecution for "official acts" carried out while in office. This appalling decision, which fell along partisan lines with the six conservative justices voting in favor and the three liberal justices dissenting, has major implications for the 2024 presidential campaign and is a huge setback for democracy.
"Under our constitutional structure of separated powers, the nature of Presidential power entitles a former President to absolute immunity from criminal prosecution for actions within his conclusive and preclusive constitutional authority. And he is entitled to at least presumptive immunity from prosecution for all his official acts. There is no immunity for unofficial acts." - Court majority, displaying their sheer ignorance and bias.

This ruling is a slap in the face to all Americans who care about democracy and the rule of law. It effectively gives the president free rein to commit crimes and abuse their power without consequence. Trump, who has been charged with interfering in the 2020 election, is now likely to avoid trial until after the 2024 election, thanks to this biased decision.
Trump, the orange menace, naturally boasted about the ruling on his social media platform, Truth Social, saying, "BIG WIN FOR OUR CONSTITUTION AND DEMOCRACY. PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!" His campaign sent out a fundraising email claiming, "Crooked Joe Biden KNEW this case would fall apart, but he STILL had his out-of-control DOJ try to TAKE ME DOWN!"
Biden, who actually respects the rule of law and understands the concept of separation of powers, had no involvement in the case. However, his campaign rightly pointed out that Trump is a wannabe dictator who encouraged a mob to attack the Capitol on January 6. They also highlighted Trump's past statements, including his promise to be a "dictator on Day 1" and his "bloodbath" comment, as well as his remark about terminating the Constitution.
This ruling is a dark day for American democracy. The Supreme Court has effectively placed the president above the law and undone any checks on presidential power. Justice Sonia Sotomayor rightly pointed out in her dissent that the decision "creates a law-free zone around the president," giving them immunity for even the most heinous crimes.
We can only hope that the American people see through this right-wing stunt and hold Trump accountable at the ballot box in November.
