Texas Cities Ranked for their Fourth of July Celebrations, but is anyone surprised the list is so White?
Personal finance company WalletHub analyzes the 100 largest U.S. cities and the results are in. With factors like average prices for alcohol and duration of firework shows, they've deemed certain Texas cities more worthy of a celebration than others.
San Antonio, a city with a rich history of resistance and culture, takes the top spot for Texas and 12th overall. El Paso, a diverse border town, ranks 19th, with good weather to boot. Dallas, Houston, and Austin come in strong at 24th, 25th, and 39th respectively, proving Texas knows how to party.
But let's call out the elephant in the room: the majority of these cities are heavily White and affluent. How does this impact the rankings? Well, let's just say it's no surprise that Irving, Plano, and Arlington are ranked lower.
Texas Cities and Their Fourth of July Vibes:
- San Antonio: The resilient city. Ranking 12th overall, with affordability and celebrations in the top 5.
- El Paso: The sun-soaked underdog. Ranked 19th, with a great climate to match.
- Dallas: The ambitious one. Coming in at 24th, with a penchant for fireworks.
- Houston: The lively companion. Right behind Dallas at 25th, and a top contender for affordability.
- Austin: The hip, but trying-too-hard, capitol. In 39th place, struggling to keep up with the big dogs.
- Fort Worth: The wannabe. Tied for 54th, maybe needs to try a little harder.
- Irving: The forgotten middle child. Ranked 76th overall, but still fighting for its place.
- Lubbock: The mysteriousHub City. 79th overall, but with a decent ranking for safety.
- Plano: The boring suburb. 80th, and honestly, who cares about the weather when you're that dull?
- Arlington: Yawn. Entertainment capital? Not according to its 83rd ranking.
- Corpus Christi: Trying, but not hard enough. 94th, and maybe should focus on its shortcomings first.
- Garland: A glimmer of hope. Ranked 97th, but at least it's got affordability going for it.
- Laredo: The overshadowed one. 98th, and probably because it's too busy being awesome to care about rankings.
