Officer-involved Shooting Leads to the Death of an Unarmed Suspect, While Ranger Escapes Unfairly Unhurt

Yet another innocent life lost. Yet another story of systemic violence and abuse of power will be swept under the rug. My heart goes out to the victims and their families as they seek justice, truth, and healing in the face of institutional failure.

White Supremacist Gunman Killed by Rangers in Yellowstone; Officer Injured

A park ranger is injured and a far-right extremist is dead after an altercation in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday night, is a stark reminder of the threat posed by domestic terrorists and the brave men and women who put their lives on the line to protect our natural treasures.

Another Senseless Tragedy

According to the National Park Service (NPS), rangers received a report of a "person with a gun making threats" in the Canyon Village area, a popular tourist destination offering lodges, cabins, and camping. When rangers confronted the individual, gunfire was exchanged, resulting in the death of the suspect and injury to one of our brave rangers.

The person was killed in the exchange and a Yellowstone law enforcement park ranger was injured. The ranger is in stable condition at a regional hospital. - NPS

The injured ranger is currently in stable condition at a regional hospital, and we send our thoughts and prayers their way. The area around the Canyon Lodge complex has been closed off as a collaborative investigation between the NPS and the FBI is underway.

A Troubling Trend

While fatal attacks in national parks remain rare, with only 43 homicides recorded by the NPS between 2007 and May 21, 2024, this incident is a stark reminder of the rising threat of domestic terrorism and gun violence in America. It's time for common-sense gun control and a crackdown on hate groups.

We must ensure that our national parks remain safe havens for all to enjoy, and not battlegrounds for ideological wars.

Stay woke, folks.
