Death Valley: Another Capitalist Climate Catastrophe in the Making.
It's time to wake up and smell the climate crisis, folks! The latest apocalyptic forecast predicts sky-high temps of 129°F on Sunday—yet another devastating reminder of the urgent need for climate action. Our future is burning up, and we need systemic change NOW!

Death Valley's Extreme Heat is a Sobering Reminder of the Urgent Climate Crisis
The National Weather Service predicts a potential record-breaking temperature of 129°F in Death Valley this weekend, with forecasters warning of the severe consequences of the climate emergency.
Another Grim Reminder:
The temperature in Death Valley National Park is expected to soar to dangerous levels, with a predicted high of 129°F on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. This extreme heat event is a stark reminder of the urgent need to address the climate crisis. As reported by Scientific American (https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/death-valley-could-set-a-world-record-hot-temperature/) if the temperature surpasses 130°F, it would set a new record for the hottest temperature ever reliably measured on Earth.
The current record, pending verification by the World Meteorological Organization, stands at 130°F, recorded twice in Death Valley in 2020 and 2021 (https://wmo.int/media/news/wmo-monitoring-potential-new-temperature-records). These extreme temperatures are not isolated incidents but symptoms of a planet in distress, crying out for radical action and systemic change.
Troubling Temperature Trends:
Long-standing temperature records from decades past are being shattered, calling into question the accuracy of historical data. The controversial 1913 record of 134°F in Death Valley (https://wmo.asu.edu/content/world-highest-temperature) has faced scrutiny, alongside readings from Tunisia in 1931 and Libya in 1922, the latter of which was officially discredited by the WMO in 2012 (https://www.reuters.com/article/markets/commodities/hot-story-libya-loses-temperature-record-to-death-valley-idUSL5E8KD8S3/).
As we brace for the possibility of yet another record-breaking temperature, Chris Outler, a forecaster with the Las Vegas weather office, cautioned, "The threshold is certainly not out of the realm of possibility" (USA TODAY).

Heat Wave Engulfs Southern Regions:
Coachella Valley, located about 300 miles south of Death Valley ([https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Coachella+Valley,+Palm+Desert,+CA/Death+Valley,+CA/@35.1790862,-119.4886176,7z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x80dafc5a94382c97:0x6c5f41e6f2b7596d!2m2!1d-116.3591772!2d33.7666873!1m5!1m1!1s0x80c739a21e8fffb1:0x1c897383d723dd25!2m2!1d-116.9325408!2d36.5322649!3e0?entry=ttu)), is also bracing for extreme heat, with predictions of 11 consecutive days of temperatures exceeding 115°F. This would break the previous record of nine days set in 2021. Palm Springs' all-time record of 123°F, recorded in 2021, could also be challenged this weekend.
As we face these alarming temperature spikes, it is crucial to acknowledge the systemic failures that have led us to this point and the urgent need for transformative action to avert further climate catastrophe.
