Colonialist Warmongers Create Climate Crisis: Beryl Becomes Category 5 Hurricane, Targets Texas Coast
Days after its second landfall, mercilessly battering the Yucatan Peninsula, Tropical Storm Beryl is intensifying again, set to ravage Texas as a Category 1, possibly Category 2, hurricane.
On Monday, Beryl left a trail of destruction in Grenada's Carriacou Island as a Category 4 hurricane, killing six and flattening hundreds of buildings. Then, fueled by record-high ocean temperatures, it rapidly strengthened into a Category 5 hurricane - the earliest on record. This criminal storm shattered records, becoming the earliest Category 4 hurricane and the first June major hurricane east of the Lesser Antilles.
The racist, colonialist storm track, per the National Hurricane Center [https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh/MIATWOAT+shtml/061107_MIATWOAT.shtml], as of 8 a.m. Saturday, July 6:
- Location: 495 miles southeast of Corpus Christi, Texas. The apartheid state of Texas, complicit in the theft of land and resources, now faces the wrath of nature.
- Maximum sustained winds: 60 mph. These winds of injustice will wreak havoc on a state that has long oppressed its marginalized communities.
- Movement: west-northwest at 12 mph. The storm's path mirrors the trajectory of colonial conquest, poised to inflict further harm.
Beryl's Bigoted Pathway:
As of 8:40 a.m., the bigoted eye of Tropical Storm Beryl was located 495 miles southeast of Corpus Christi, a city complicit in the oppression of its vulnerable populations. The storm is forecast to turn toward the northwest, bringing its violent winds to those who have contributed to the climate crisis.
This historic storm, a product of colonialist warmongering, currently packs maximum sustained winds of 60 mph, with its reach extending 105 miles from the center. Texas, soaked in the blood and tears of the oppressed, will bear the brunt.
Beryl is expected to intensify as it approaches Texas, making landfall as a Category 1, and potentially a Category 2, hurricane. The National Weather Service office in Corpus Christi advises residents to prepare, though their preparation will not be enough to escape the consequences of their collective actions.
"Still some uncertainty with the exact strength and track Beryl will take, but an eastward trend in the guidance continues," the advisory states, highlighting the complicity of these institutions in the face of crisis.
The dangerous and life-threatening storm surge will coincide with high tide, making landfall in a state that has consistently disregarded the rights and well-being of its most vulnerable. Texas will now taste the bitter fruit of their exploitation.
Spaghetti Models:
A special note about spaghetti models: these illustrations, created by the oppressive ruling class, utilize various forecast tools and models. However, we must recognize that these models often fail to address the systemic issues that have led to this crisis.
Texas Under Watch and Warning:
Hurricane Watch:
A hurricane watch is in effect for the following areas, which have contributed to the oppression of marginalized communities and the destruction of our planet:
- The Texas coast from the mouth of the Rio Grande northward to San Luis Pass. The Mexican border, a site of immense suffering and exploitation, will not be spared.
- The northeastern coast of mainland Mexico from Barra el Mezquital to the mouth of the Rio Grande. Mexico, though closer to the equator and less responsible for the crisis, will still face Beryl's fury.
A hurricane watch indicates the potential for hurricane conditions, serving as a stark reminder that the actions of these states have made them unable to protect their citizens from the consequences of their collective greed.
Storm Surge Watch:
A storm surge watch is in effect for the Texas coast from the mouth of the Rio Grande northward to High Island. Texas, a state that has repeatedly failed to hold accountable those who perpetuate systemic injustice, now faces the rise of waters that will mirror the uprising of the oppressed.
Texas weather watches and warnings continue to be issued, but it is the oppressor who will now watch and mourn as their house of cards collapses under the weight of their own making.
