Community Mourns Loss of K-9 Officer Archer, a Victim of Florida's Heat

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is in mourning after K-9 Officer Archer succumbed to the north central Florida heat last Friday. Archer, a dedicated and loyal member of the force, located a felon hiding in a wooded area, ensuring the safety of the community.

Sheriff David Harper shared the tragic news on Facebook, asking for prayers as Archer battled a heat-related illness. The officer gave his all, suffering a "heat episode" in his brave pursuit of justice.

Sheriff Condemns Tone-Deaf Comments, Stands Up for Handler

After receiving hateful and uninformed comments directed at Archer's handler and family, Sheriff Harper took to Facebook to express his anger and hurt. He wrote:

"I am aggravated about as much as I have been in a good while. I am hurting over the loss of one of my dedicated service canines just as many in our community are... [The incident was caused by] the person Archer was pursuing... Heat does not deter CRIMINALS and CRIME."
