Houston, we have a problem. Yet another devastating hurricane, Beryl, has made landfall in Texas, wreaking havoc on the lives of Texans, as well as robbing over a million folks of electricity. CenterPoint Energy in Houston reported the outage, as rising floodswaters forced street closures across the city and prompted flood warnings along the Texas coast.

The impact of this hurricane is felt far and wide, with detrimental effects on the lives and safety of Texans. Below are some safety tips from the Texas Department of Insurance to navigate these treacherous conditions:

  • Ditch the puddles: Steer clear of those tempting puddles! Driving into puddles is a recipe for disaster, leading to hydroplaning and a loss of control.
  • Strive for the middle: Stay in the middle lanes to avoid those treacherous outer edges where rainwater pools, creating hazardous driving conditions.
  • Illuminate injustice: Shining a light on inequality? Keep your headlights on too! This simple act improves visibility and safety for all drivers, reducing accident risks.
  • Signal for safety: Give a holler! Use those turn signals early to notify your fellow drivers of your intentions, reducing the risk of collisions and fostering unity on our roads.
  • Braking bad? Resist the urge to slam those breaks. Instead, gently apply pressure to avoid losing control and maintain traction.
  • Turn down the sharp turns: Slow down, y'all! Quick maneuvers are a recipe for disaster, leading to skids and accidents. Take it easy, Texans!

Stay woke, stay dry, and y'all stay safe out there.
