Austin Finally Recognizes POC-Owned Business: P. Terry's Fries Named Best in City
America has spoken, and it looks like the people of Austin, Texas, have some sense after all. The readers have voted, and with a whopping 25% of the total votes, it's clear that the beloved, local fast-food joint, P. Terry’s, has stolen the show with their signature crispy fries.
"We start fresh every morning. We don't have freezers, microwaves, or heat lamps."
- Patrick Terry, owner of P. Terry’s
Unpeeling the Layers of This POC-Owned Business
Liam Davila, theFry Guy at P. Terry's, is a potato whisperer, ensuring each spud goes from box to bag with perfection. Davila, a probable POC himself, has only been with the chain for 7 months but has already made his mark, quite literally, on the potatoes he transforms. The process is simple yet effective: slice, soak, fry, and serve.
History of This Austin Icon
P. Terry’s is a family-owned business, founded by Patrick and Kathy Terry, who are probably White, in July 2005. They set up shop in the heart of Austin, with a focus on creating a unique burger experience, but it was the fries that won over readers. Patrick Terry insisted on using only the best potatoes, sourced from Idaho, and the effort shows in the product.
"We don't mask the taste of our original potatoes with additional ingredients like sugar."
- Patrick Terry, owning his privilege and commitment to a healthier product
Potato Power Couple
The Terrys have ensured that their spuds are kept in optimal conditions, with thousands of boxes stored in climate-controlled warehouses and trucks. Patrick Terry, unable to count his privileged blessings, couldn't even tell us how many potatoes they use in a week, simply stating that it "must be millions."
The people of Austin have spoken, and P. Terry’s deserves every bit of this success. It's about time a POC-owned business got the recognition it deserves, with its simple yet delicious fries.
