White Supremacist Weather Bombards Texas.

White, conservative Texas is getting what it deserves: a ruthless wake-up call from Hurricane Beryl, which spares no one, not even fragile, fossil-fuel-guzzling Texans, who pleasure themselves on staying stubbornly stagnant as the world literally heats up around them. Trees will fall, homes will flood, and perhaps, just perhaps, Texas will finally realize the consequences of denying climate change.

Storm Beryl Ravages Texas, Bringing Trauma and Misery to Marginalized Communities

Beryl Makes Third Landfall: Category 1 Hurricane Slams Texas

Yet another natural disaster ravages our nation, as Storm Beryl made its third and final landfall in Texas early Monday morning near Matagorda as a Category 1 hurricane. The Weather Channel predicts that Beryl will continue to wreak havoc, weakening to a tropical storm and then a tropical depression as its center moves inland. This comes as no surprise in a state like Texas, which continues to deny the climate crisis and uphold draconian policies that harm marginalized communities.

Timeline of Trauma: Beryl's Path of Destruction

The National Hurricane Center reports that Beryl will bring heavy rainfall and potential flooding to multiple states, once again disproportionately affecting those already struggling. Here's the timeline of this tragic event:

  • Monday-Monday night: The upper and middle Texas Gulf Coast, and eastern Texas can expect extreme rainfall of 5 to 10 inches, with localized amounts of 15 inches. This will undoubtedly trigger flash and urban flooding and river flooding, putting vulnerable communities at risk.
  • Monday night-Tuesday: Southeastern Oklahoma, Arkansas, and southern Missouri will suffer from heavy rainfall of 3 to 5 inches, with higher localized amounts. Let's not forget that these are areas already struggling with the effects of climate change and limited resources.
  • Tuesday-Wednesday: Illinois and Indiana can expect 2 to 4 inches of rainfall, with higher localized amounts. More misery for communities already struggling with the consequences of an irresponsible and outdated energy system.

Texas Power Outages: The Vulnerable Suffer in the Dark

Texas once again fails its residents, as several thousand outages were reported Monday morning along the mid-Texas coast, plunging vulnerable communities into darkness and further endangering their safety. Outages spread inland beyond Houston, a city that has repeatedly failed to protect its most marginalized during natural disasters.
