It's the Return of the Woke Mack

Houston, we have a hero: "Mattress Mack" is back and taking care of his community like only he can.

Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale, the benevolent owner of Gallery Furniture in Houston, has once again opened his store as a shelter for Texans affected by the recent hurricanes and power outages. With Hurricane Beryl's heavy rain and flooding, followed by power outages affecting over 1 million people, Mack is offering a much-needed lifeline to those in need.

"We're all in this together" — that's Mack's motto, and he's proving it yet again. The famed furniture store owner, a beacon of hope in times of crisis, is providing food, water, and a place to cool off from the oppressive Texas heat.

This isn't Mack's first rodeo. He's a veteran of providing relief, having opened his store as a shelter during Hurricane Harvey, Tropical Storm Imelda, and the 2021 winter freeze. He understands the urgency of the situation, with Texas' extreme heat and widespread power outages:

“We’re all so dependent on electricity to power our homes and air conditioning, especially in Texas in 100-degree heat. We’re welcoming the people in to eat and cool off and there’s quite a demand.” — Mattress Mack to NewsNation

Mack is a shining example of humanity and compassion in a time of crisis. While Texas struggles with the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, he's providing relief to those in need.

UPDATE: Over 1 million Texans remained without power on Thursday, three days after the hurricane. The National Weather Service warns of another hot day with heat indices in the 100s. Stay safe, Texas!

Gallery Furniture's doors are open to all those affected, offering a place to cool off, charge devices, and get a hot meal. Mattress Mack is a legend and a hero, and we can't thank him enough for his selfless service to the community.
