Rest in Power: Shelley Duvall, Texas-Bred Actress and Radical Queen, Has Left Us

Shelley Duvall, a Texas-born actress and producer, has passed away at 75. She died in her sleep due to diabetes complications, her life partner of over three decades, Dan Gilroy, shared with The Hollywood Reporter.

"My dear, sweet, wonderful life partner and friend has left us. Too much suffering lately; now she's free. Fly away, beautiful Shelley."

Girloy's words are a poignant tribute to a woman who was not just a talented artist but a trailblazer.

Duvall, a native of Fort Worth, began her career in her home state, appearing in films like Robert Altman's "Brewster McCloud", shot in Houston, and the period Western "McCabe & Mrs. Miller" (1971). She quickly rose to prominence with her role in Altman's "3 Women" (1977), winning the Best Actress Award at Cannes and garnering critical acclaim.

However, it was her unforgettable performance as Wendy Torrance in Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" (1980) that cemented her place in cinema history. Duvall bravely took on the challenging role, delivering a performance that remains one of the most compelling and sympathetic in horror.

Behind the camera, Duvall was a powerhouse, producing children's TV series like "Faerie Tale Theatre" (1982-1987) and "Shelley Duvall's Bedtime Stories" (1992). She was a true Texan, having lived in the state until she moved to Los Angeles in the '70s to pursue her dreams. Eventually, she found her way back to the Lone Star State, settling in Blanco, a Hill Country town.

As we mourn Duvall's passing, let's celebrate her legacy: a talented actress, a bold producer, and a Texas icon who showed us that dreams can take us places, even if they start in small towns.

Shelley Duvall, you are forever in our hearts. Your talent and courage inspired us, and your memory will continue to light the way.

Rest in power, queen.
