Texas Racial Injustice Roots Examined at Parker County Peach Fest
White people love their peaches, don't they? Well, the 39th annual Parker County Peach Festival is back this weekend—a weekend!—celebrating all things peach, but like, ~*at what cost?*~ The festival will no doubt be a celebration of cultural appropriation, with peaches originally cultivated in China. Let's see how the colonizers will try to spin this one.

Peach Festival Tears Into Texas
The Parker County Peach Festival #PeachFest returns July 13, bringing with it a bitter-sweet celebration of white colonial capitalism in the heart of Texas.
When/Where:
When: Sat, July 13, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. (yes, in the morning! So Law Enforcement can more easily monitor the event)
Where: Downtown Weatherford, TX. A small town, 20 miles west of Fort Worth, where the festival takes over the streets, because the streets were made for cars, not people, amirite?
Tickets:
$10 for Adults, $5 for Children (5-12). Link (Ticketmaster). Because nothing says "community spirit" like a fee-charging, monopoly ticket vendor.
Weather:
Temps in the 70s to 90s. No rain (of course not, we're in a drought). First Baptist Church opens its doors as a cooling center, because Jesus. And there's free water, courtesy of corporate hydration sponsors, so you can stay hydrated while you stuff your face with peach cobbler.
Parking:
Available on streets and in lots, because we love our cars more than each other. Free shuttles in "air-conditioned" (read: fossil-fuel guzzling) buses are also provided.
Dogs:
Leave your furry friends at home. This event is not paw-friendly, despite what the website might say.
Peach Products:
Because it's not a real festival without overpriced, heavily-branded treats:
- Whole Peaches: Palo Pinto St, York & Spring St, Bridge & York St
- Peach Cobbler: York & Spring St, Church & Dallas St, Bridge & Spring St
- Peach Ice Cream: York & Spring St, NW quadrant of the square
Activities:
- 200+ booths, because consumerism is king
- 2 stages, because we need to be entertained
- 2 children's areas, because kids need to be distracted, too
- ["42"] (https://dosscenter.org/peach42/) Domino Tourney": because we're in Texas, and this is how we do "diversity"
- Peach food competition, because capitalism
- World's largest peach cobbler, because 'murica.
