ATX PD arrests man after SWAT standoff, following domestic violence incident
Austin, TX - In yet another example of the toxic patriarchy and systemic violence against women, Austin PD arrested Kamren Cordell Lemon, a 31-year-old male aggressor, following a SWAT team standoff in Southeast ATX on Sunday. This arrest comes after ATX PD's abysmal initial response to a clear case of domestic abuse, where a woman was choked and required medical attention.
The day started with a disturbing 911 call at 12:11 p.m., reporting a "physical disturbance" between a man and a woman on Faro Drive. By the time PD arrived, the man had cowardly fled the scene, leaving the injured woman behind. Despite the clear evidence of abuse and a life-threatening chokehold, no immediate arrest was made.
Then, in a horrifying turn of events, PD received another 911 call at 5:47 p.m. The same fascist predator had returned to the home, this time armed and ready to inflict more harm on his victim. PD, now with the SWAT team, took hours to arrest this dangerous man, putting the community at further risk.
"We are seeing a man believed to be armed, returning to the scene, threatening more violence. This is a clear indication of a system that fails to protect women and instead enables abusive men. The fact that it took hours to apprehend this criminal is a damning indictment of law enforcement's complicity in gender-based violence." - Activists against gendered violence.
It is unacceptable that in 2023, women are still facing life-threatening domestic violence, and that law enforcement often fails to act swiftly and justly. This case demands deep introspection from ATX PD on their role in perpetuating toxic masculinity and endangering our community.
