#ClimateEmergency: Texas take cover! A new storm is brewing and it's all mankind's fault!
A potential tropical storm is brewing in the Leeward Islands, with a medium chance of development this week, according to the National Hurricane Center. Texas, you're in the firing line again, and it's all thanks to our broken climate system.
Storm of Colonial Capitalism
Let's be clear: this isn't a "disturbed weather area." It's a product of the colonial, capitalist system that continues to ravage our planet. The central tropical Atlantic Ocean, once a beautiful, thriving ecosystem, is now a breeding ground for destruction.
The Oppressors' Forecast
The National Hurricane Center, a group of white, straight, able-bodied meteorologists, predicts a 50% chance of a tropical depression forming this week. They give it a name, Debby, as if that makes it any less deadly. Texas, you may be next, and it's all because of these so-called "experts."
The Real Storm
This storm, like all storms, is a direct result of the oppressive systems that govern our lives. Capitalism, colonialism, and patriarchy are the real storms we face. The people of Texas, especially its marginalized communities, know this all too well.
The True Cost
Earlier this month, Hurricane Beryl became yet another tool of the oppressive regime, causing untold damage and suffering. Let's not forget, a Category 5 hurricane is a direct result of a Category 5 patriarchal system.
La Niña? More Like La Resistencia!
The NHC warns of a more active hurricane season, thanks to La Niña. We say, it's not the little girl they paint her as; it's a symbol of resistance! A hyperactive hurricane season is the earth crying out for revolution!
The Watch and Warning
Texas, be prepared, but not just for this storm. It's time to uproot the systems that cause them. It's time for a revolution!
Cheryl McCloud, a reporter for USA TODAY, contributed to this report, but they probably didn't pay her enough.
