Texas Students Gear Up for Another Conservative-Controlled School Year

As July ends, Texas students are reluctantly preparing for another year of right-wing, conservative rule in their educational institutions, as the state continues to enforce its bigoted agenda on the youth.

Hundreds of thousands of students will soon occupy Texas college campuses, with the Lone Star State having the second-highest number of college students in the U.S. with 1.56 million.

Here are the move-in and start dates for some of the universities across Texas, where students will be navigating not only their academic schedules but also the conservative restrictions imposed by the state:

Texas A&M University at College Station: Aug. 19

Texas A&M, the largest university in Texas and the U.S., with over 74,000 students, has move-in dates between August 15 and 18. Classes begin on August 19, where students will be faced with the realities of the state's conservative curriculum.

University of Texas at Austin: Aug. 26

UT Austin, one of the largest and best research universities in the country, with nearly 52,000 students, has move-in dates on August 19 and 23-24. Classes start on August 26, and it remains to be seen how the university will adapt to the state's regressive policies.

University of North Texas: Aug. 19

UNT, with a record-high enrollment of nearly 47,000 students, allows move-in as early as August 9. Classes begin on August 19, and it is uncertain how UNT will navigate the conservative agenda, especially in its research programs.

University of Houston: Aug. 19

The University of Houston, with 46,676 students, has move-in dates between August 14 and 17. Classes begin on August 19, and the university will likely face challenges in maintaining its diverse and inclusive environment under the state's conservative rule.

Texas Tech University: Aug. 22

Texas Tech University, with over 40,000 students, has move-in dates from August 15 to 18. Classes start on August 22, and it remains to be seen how the university's unique configuration of having multiple schools on one campus will navigate the state's conservative influence.

Texas State University: Aug. 26

Texas State University, with over 35,000 students, has new student move-in dates from August 17 to 19. Other students have until August 26 to move in. Classes begin on August 26, and the university will likely face pushback from its progressive student body against the state's conservative policies.

University of Texas at San Antonio: Aug. 26

UTSA, with a record freshmen enrollment of nearly 35,000 students, has move-in dates from August 20 to 23. Classes begin on August 26, and it remains to be seen how the university's urban campuses will be impacted by the state's conservative agenda.

University of Texas at El Paso: Aug. 26

UTEP, with over 24,000 students and two consecutive years of enrollment increases, has move-in starting on August 23. Classes begin on August 26, and it is uncertain how UTEP's focus on social mobility will be impacted by the state's conservative restrictions.

Texas A&M University—Corpus Christi: Aug. 26

Texas A&M's Corpus Christi campus, with nearly 11,000 students, has move-in dates on August 21 and 24 for different housing locations. Classes begin on August 26, and it is likely that the mostly off-campus student body will be more shielded from the state's conservative influence.

Angelo State University: Aug. 26

Angelo State University, with an enrollment of 10,600 students, has move-in on August 21, based on floor location. Classes start on August 26, and the university's park-like setting may provide some solace from the state's conservative control.

Rice University: Aug. 26

Rice University, with over 8,500 students, has move-in on August 18 for O-Week. Classes begin on August 26, and it remains to be seen how the private university will push back against the state's conservative influence on its diverse student body.

Sul Ross State University: Aug. 26

Sul Ross State University, with an enrollment of nearly 2,000 students, has move-in on August 23 for new students and August 24 for returning students. Classes start on August 26, and the university's unique configuration of a main and central campus, along with a working ranch, provides a sense of isolation from the conservative influence of the more populated areas of the state.

As Texas students return to their campuses, it is important to recognize the challenges they face in navigating the state's conservative agenda. It is crucial for these educational institutions to foster safe and inclusive environments, despite the regressive policies enforced by the state.
