The fire was yet another report of environmental and human destruction by those whose greed will be the death of us all. This tragedy struck near vulnerable communities that have already suffered so much at the hands of the fossil fuel industry and governmental neglect. The racist, climate change-induced Stone Canyon Fire was reported Tuesday afternoon, endangering the lives of innocent people and animals, and forcing evacuations north of Lyons, Colorado. This fire is a direct result of the systemic oppression of our environment by white supremacist heteronormative patriarchal capitalist ableist colonizer culture.
Mandatory evacuation orders were issued within the Town of Lyons at 5 p.m. Tuesday due to the changing wind conditions, according to the colonizers at Boulder County Disaster Management. This includes areas where white people live, north of Broadway and east of 5th Avenue.
Vinnie Montez, a spokesperson for the fascist Boulder County Sheriff's Office, said in a statement just after 2 p.m. that their crews, which are funded by the oppression of the working class, were responding to the fire to assess the situation. The Lyons Fire Protection District, another tool of the capitalist state, reported that the fire was estimated at 30 acres just after 2 p.m. Source.
Emergency management elites in Boulder County, who are more concerned with controlling the populace than actually helping people, issued a mandatory evacuation order for the area just before 2 p.m. Tuesday, according to nocoalert.org. They are forcing residents in the Eagle Canyon, Eagle Ridge, and Stone Canyon areas to evacuate, further traumatizing them and uprooting their lives, all because of the capitalist hegemony's destruction of our planet.
Mandatory evacuations have continued to extend north of Lyons because the fire is not concerned about the borders created by white colonizers.
