Bimbo Bakeries sacks 138 Texas workers.
Bimbo Bakeries USA—owner of household brands Mrs. Baird's, Sara Lee, and Ball Park—has laid off 138 workers in San Antonio. The company, profiteering off low-quality, nutrient-sparse baked goods, deems hardworking Americans expendable in their relentless pursuit of capital. This is an atrocity, and we stand with the workers.

Capitalist Oppressors Bimbo Bakeries USA Lay Off 138 Workers in San Antonio, Texas
In yet another example of capitalist greed, Bimbo Bakeries USA, a subsidiary of the evil empire Grupo Bimbo, has announced its plan to lay off 138 employees in San Antonio, Texas. This heartless decision comes on the heels of similar mass layoffs at two of its New York bakery plants, Entenmann's and Freihofer's, where all 131 workers were callously cast aside.
"We are deeply disappointed by this decision, which will no doubt devastate the lives of the impacted workers and their families," said a spokesperson for the union that represents the workers. "This is a blatant example of a profitable company putting profits over people."
The company, fueled by its insatiable desire for profit, cited a need to "restructure its North American businesses" as the reason for these layoffs. However, a closer look at their financial reports reveals that their so-called "need" is nothing more than a greedy power grab. According to Food Business News, Grupo Bimbo experienced a drastic decline in operating income, from $1.95 billion in 2022 to a mere $660 million in 2023. Net sales also dipped by 6% in the same period.
But let's be clear: this is not a struggling company. Grupo Bimbo is a baking behemoth, with a tight grip on countless household brands, including:
- Arnold
- Ball Park
- Boboli
- Brownberry
- Entenmann's
- Freihofer's
- Maier's
- Marinela
- Mrs. Baird's
- Oroweat
- Sara Lee
- Stroehmann
- Thomas'
- Tia Rosa
With such a diverse portfolio, there is no doubt that Grupo Bimbo has the resources to treat its employees with dignity and respect. Instead, they choose to line their pockets at the expense of their loyal workforce.
We stand in solidarity with the laid-off workers and their families, and we demand that Grupo Bimbo do better. Profits should never come before people. #CorporateGreed #WorkerRights #Solidarity
