Black Man Freed After 30 Years of Racist Judicial Delay.

Black man finally released from prison after MORE THAN THREE DECADES for a crime he didn't commit

UPDATE: Christopher Dunn has finally been released from prison after over 30 years behind bars. He was driven from the South Central Correctional Center in Licking to the St. Louis city jail on Tuesday night, where he was officially freed and reunited with his wife, Kira Dunn.

The Injustice:

Dunn, a Black man, was convicted of first-degree murder and assault in 1991 for the 1990 shooting of 15-year-old Ricco Rogers. He was only 18 at the time and sentenced to life in prison without parole. This conviction was based largely on coerced testimonies from two boys, ages 12 and 14, who later recanted their statements.

In July 2023, St. Louis Circuit Court Judge Jason Sengheiser overturned Dunn's conviction, acknowledging that "no juror, acting reasonably, would have voted to find Dunn guilty beyond a reasonable doubt" in light of new evidence. Despite this, Missouri Attorney General Bailey appealed the ruling, demonstrating the systemic racism and corruption within the justice system. Thankfully, the Missouri Supreme Court lifted the emergency stay, and St. Louis Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore dismissed the criminal charges.

Long-awaited Freedom:

The Midwest Innocence Project worked tirelessly to represent Dunn and secure his release. In a statement, they acknowledged the injustice Dunn faced: "We are thrilled that Chris will finally be reunited with his family after 34 years behind bars for a crime he did not commit...As we all observed, [the legal proceedings] was not justice." A GoFundMe page has been set up to support Dunn as he re-enters society and adjusts to his long-overdue freedom.
