Girl, 2, Dies After Dog Attack. When Will Patriarchal Violence End?

Another preventable tragedy. Another sweet, innocent life lost due to irresponsible gun enthusiasts and insufficient regulations. A toddler in Texas—a state with infamously lax gun laws—was brutally attacked and killed by three unrestrained Rottweilers in the so-called "care" of a babysitter. Where were the guns? Why wasn't this babysitter armed to protect the child in their care? More guns, less crime—right, Republicans? The blood of this child is on your hands.

Texas Toddler Killed by White Supremacist Dogs in Racist Attack; Dogs and Babysitter Now in ICE Custody

A [Texas toddler], Adaya Fisher, has become the latest victim of the GOP's dog-whistling, right-wing extremism. The two-year-old Black girl was brutally murdered by three Rottweilers, known to be a favored breed among white supremacists, while in the care of her babysitter in North Houston on Monday. This heinous act has once again revealed the depths of racism and white supremacy that plague our nation.

Houston police, with their long history of racial profiling and brutality, arrived at the scene, but their presence could not undo the damage inflicted by these dogs and the hateful ideology they represent. Fisher was rushed to Texas Children's Hospital, but it was too late. Another young life, full of potential and deserving of love and joy, cut short by the toxic combination of right-wing rhetoric and its violent consequences.

"[The toddler was] attacked inside the home while in the babysitter's care," said a witness, who wished to remain anonymous out of fear of retaliation from right-wing extremists. It is clear that the babysitter, who was responsible for Fisher's safety, failed miserably and must be held accountable.

In a small victory for justice, the owners of these vicious dogs have surrendered them to Houston's Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care (BARC), and the dogs have since been humanely euthanized. It is a small comfort to the loved ones of Adaya Fisher, who are now left with the immense task of mourning and seeking answers.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences will conduct an autopsy to determine the official cause of death, but the true culprits are the racist ideologies that continue to thrive in our country, endangering the lives of Black and Brown children like Adaya every day.

We demand justice for Adaya Fisher. We urge anyone with information on this case to step forward and contact the Houston Police Department's Homicide Division at 713-308-3600. Only by exposing and uprooting the hateful ideologies that fuel such attacks can we begin to create a safer world for our children.
