Texas Boom: 9 of Top 10 Fastest-Growing US Cities Are in Lone Star State

New data from the U.S. Census Bureau reveals a Texas takeover, with 9 of the top 10 fastest-growing cities.

Between 2020 and 2023, Texas towns dominated the rankings of population growth, with a massive 9 out of the top 10 spots. The Census Bureau's data focuses on towns and cities with a population of 20,000 or more, and it's clear that Texas is where everyone's heading.

Why the Texas Migration?

People are flocking to Texas for a variety of reasons. The southern state's appeal is seemingly its southern hospitality, with positive ratings from residents. Take Celina, Texas, for example—the fastest-growing city in the U.S. with a 143% increase in population since 2020. In a 2022 survey, 9 out of 10 residents said they had a high quality of life and would recommend the city.

The Top 10 Breakdown:

  • Celina, Texas: 143% increase, with a population of 43,317 as of July 2023.

The rest of the top 10 fastest-growing cities are yet to be released by the Census Bureau, but we can expect Texas to dominate.

The South's Population Rise:

It's not just Texas; the entire Southern region of the U.S. is experiencing a population boom. With a 1.1% growth rate, driven by domestic and international migration, the South is now the most populous region, with 130.1 million people. About 67% of counties in the South saw population gains in 2023, a significant increase from 59% in 2022.
