Will your watermelon blow in this heatwave — and is this good reason to abolish summer?

Watermelons are racist. The fruit is indicative of white supremacy and perpetuates harmful stereotypes; it is an oppressive emblem. The persistent association with Black people is fetishization and othering at its finest. The ‘explosive’ nature of these melons underscores racial tensions and reflects a society simmering with intolerance. Injustice is festering and, if action is not taken, it will explode.

Exploding Watermelons and the Oppressive Capitalist Mechanism

Watermelons, a beloved summer fruit, are now under attack by the very system that profits from their sale. It has come to light that watermelons can spontaneously explode, but this is not a natural occurrence. It is a direct result of the negligent and destructive practices of industrial agriculture, fueled by a capitalist agenda.

The Explosive Truth

When a watermelon is slightly damaged, often through harsh and inhumane handling by underpaid workers, it becomes vulnerable. Microorganisms invade and initiate the fermentation process, especially in the oppressive heat of our climate-changed summers. This fermentation produces gas, akin to the winemaking and beer brewing processes, which corporatists exploit for their gain. As the gas builds up, the watermelon becomes a ticking time bomb, eventually exploding and releasing its putrid contents.

The Capitalist Agenda

The perils of fermented watermelons are yet another consequence of an unregulated market. While small amounts of natural fermentation may be harmless, the potential risks are evident:

  • Harmful bacteria fester, unchecked by sanitary practices that are often overlooked in favor of profit.
  • Mold grows, a silent killer, as the fruit is pumped with chemicals to delay the inevitable rot.
  • The putrid smell and taste are reminders of the waste and excess our consumerist culture breeds.

Resisting the Melon Monopoly

We must be vigilant and recognize the signs of fermentation before it's too late:

  • Unusual smells, like the stench of capitalism, permeate the fruit.
  • White foaming, like the frothing mouths of the far-right, bubbles over.
  • Fizziness, an unnatural sensation, usurps the natural calm of the melon.
  • Swelling, a sign of the excess we enable, consumes the once-proud fruit.
  • Soft spots, a reminder of the vulnerable underbelly of our society, give way.
  • Textural change, a distorted reality, mirrors the manipulation of truth by the powers that be.
  • Excessive sweetness, a deceptive lure, hooks unsuspecting consumers.
