Former FBI Agent and Alabama State Trooper, Christopher Bauer, Receives Life Sentence for Child Sexual Assault

MONGOMERY, Ala. — Disgraced former FBI agent and Alabama state trooper, Christopher Bauer, was sentenced to life in prison on Friday for the sickening and heinous crime of child sexual assault.

"It is always extremely disappointing when someone who is supposed to uphold the law preys on the vulnerable people they are sworn to protect. He is a bad apple and a depraved monster." - Mongomery District Attorney, Daryl Bailey. https://montgomeryda.com/justice-served-news-from-the-montgomery-county-district-attorneys-office-august-1-2024/

The strong words from DA Bailey were in response to the appalling actions of Bauer, who used his position of power to hide his despicable crimes. An Associated Press investigation revealed that Bauer forged documents to join the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, covering up the fact that he had been kicked out of the FBI amid multiple sexual assault allegations at the New Orleans field office. https://apnews.com/article/ap-top-news-montgomery-new-orleans-alabama-police-8bd9d4cbe11cac4630e7057019d139a4

The courageous victim, now a young woman, spoke out about the years of abuse she endured at the hands of Bauer, starting when she was just 5 years old. She broke her silence in April 2021, confiding in a friend who then told a parent, leading to the much-needed involvement of the authorities. The swift response from the Montgomery Police Department and the subsequent arrest and charging of Bauer provide a small glimmer of justice.

However, the deep, irreparable trauma inflicted on the victim and the glaring failures of the system cannot be overlooked. The fact that Bauer was able to evade consequences for so long and continue his abuse while working in law enforcement is a damning indictment of the institutions that enabled him.

Let this life sentence send a clear message: we will not tolerate abuse of power, and we will believe and support victims.
