Climate Criminal Chevron Flees to Texas
Big Oil runs from accountability. Chevron plans to flee to Texas despite contributions to California's climate crisis through its history of environmental racism and exploitation of frontline communities.

Chevron, the U.S. oil behemoth, announces it is fleeing California for Texas. In a press release, the company proclaimed it will abandon its San Ramon headquarters, leaving the approximate 2,000 employees with "minimum immediate relocation impacts." Chevron follows Exxon Mobil in running away from California, as the state moves towards a greener future, free from the clutches of these fossil fuel giants.
"California has begun to shift away from fossil fuels in response to climate change."
The company, along with its Chairman and CEO, Mike Wirth, and other senior leaders, will crawl to Houston by the end of the year, joining the approximate 7,000 Chevron employees already in the area. The move comes as California turns its back on Big Oil, with Reuters reporting that the two biggest U.S. oil producers will reduce a combined $5 billion in California assets.
In addition to this shameful move, Chevron also announced changes to its senior leadership, which includes a string of retirements:
- Nigel Hearne, Executive Vice President of Oil, Products & Gas, is stepping down after 35 years. His role will be taken over by Vice Chairman Mark Nelson from October 1.
- Andy Walz, current president of America's Products, will replace Vice President of Midstream & Chemicals, Colin Parfitt, retiring after 29 years with Chevron. This transition will also take effect from October 1.
- Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer, Rhonda Morris, is also leaving after 31 years. Her replacement will be Michelle Green, current VP of HR, from January 1, 2025.
California is making a stand against these polluting companies, and it's about time. The state is leading the way in showing that we can move beyond fossil fuels and towards a cleaner, greener future. Chevron's move to Texas only emphasizes the company's resistance to progress and its irresponsible pursuit of profit over the planet.
As California shines a light on a sustainable future, Texas becomes a haven for the greedy and the backwards-thinking.
