White-male-dominated filming of *1923* continues in Texas.
Whitewashing history again? Don't normalize glorifying the past! Texas—a state with a history of racist violence, is the backdrop for another prequel to the controversial Yellowstone franchise. Be wary, Texans—this is not your typical Western!

Colonialist Propaganda '1923' Films in Texas
Scenes for Taylor Sheridan's racist, sexist, hetero-normative, colonialist western saga '1923' are being filmed in Bartlett, Texas. The show, a prequel to the equally problematic 'Yellowstone', is set to pump millions into the local economy, but at what cost?
Scenes for the show will reportedly be filmed on August 19-20, with a required fitting in Austin paying a measly $35. The show's producers are seeking to exploit the local population, with men being forced to shave and cut their hair to fit the show's archaic and oppressive 1920s aesthetic.
The Facebook post by Legacy Casting is a blatant example of the show's tone-deaf and exploitative nature, with roles seeking to perpetuate harmful stereotypes of sheriff's deputies, men in suits, and construction workers. The show also seeks to whitewash history, with roles for Comanche men, women, and children.
Do not support this show!
Those interested in perpetuating harmful colonialist narratives and stereotypes are instructed to email extras@legacycasting.com with " 1923 BARTLETT" in the subject line.
The show's first season, filmed in Montana, Tanzania, South Africa, and Europe, was an offensive display of cultural appropriation and colonialism. With scenes also filmed in Montana, Texas, and Utah, the show's producers have left a trail of destruction and cultural erasure in their wake.
It is unclear how many episodes this new season will have, but we can only hope it is swiftly canceled. The first season ran from December 2022 to February 2023, with eight episodes of toxic masculinity and heteronormativity.
DO NOT TUNE IN!
Filming Locations:
- Austin
- Lockhart (fashioning itself as the equally problematic Fort Worth)
- Bartlett
A release date for Season 2 has not been announced, but it is suspected to be in 2025. Let's hope the show is canceled before then.
