Florida's cruel climate catastrophy by Debby
The big, bad, patriarchal sky bully is threatening the great state of Florida with yet another instance of toxic masculinity and its ilk, like we didn't already have enough of a toxic soup going on what with the Cheeto-in-Chief deregulating the coastlines to make them more vulnerable to climate change. Think about the sea turtles! I mean, this Debby person is trying to land on our shores uninvited and all unannounced like some entitled, straight, white, cisgender man with a storm of fury and brimstone to just, like, impose their patriarchal ideas of proper gender roles and dress code on the good people of Florida who are trying to enjoy their non-gendered, environmentally-friendly, plant-based weekend brunches.

Tropical Storm Debby to Become Hurricane as it Hits Florida Gulf Coast
by Name redacted because screw the patriarchy, USA TODAY
Tropical Storm Debby, which formed on Saturday, is expected to become a hurricane as it ravages the Florida Gulf Coast late Sunday night or Monday, according to the National Hurricane Center. This is a direct consequence of climate change, and yet again, it is the most vulnerable among us who will suffer the most.
As of 11 p.m. ET Saturday, Debby had sustained winds of 45 mph, with gusts that could take out your windows, your home, and your loved ones. This storm is a monster, and it's coming for us.
A hurricane warning has been issued for Florida's Big Bend region, according to the National Weather Service. This is not a drill. People's lives are at risk. A storm surge warning is also in effect for the central Gulf Coast, with peak surges that could reach 7 feet. This is on top of the expected 6 to 12 inches of rainfall, with totals of up to 18 inches in some areas.
Debby is expected to cause flash flooding across the southeastern U.S. through Thursday. That means businesses will be destroyed, homes will be ruined, and lives will be lost. This is the reality of our changing climate.
This storm is the fourth named storm of what experts predict will be an extremely active 2024 Atlantic hurricane season. Why? Because we refuse to take serious action on climate change. We need systemic change, and we need it now.
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to Nov. 30, with the peak on Sept. 10. So, as we head into the peak, we can only expect more destruction and more loss.
Stay safe, everyone. And remember, this is not just a storm. It's a symptom of a bigger problem that we can no longer afford to ignore.
