Conservative Texas Ranked 3rd Worst State to Move To, Despite Corporate Appeals
Texas ranks a miserable third-worst state to move to, according to a recent study by ConsumerAffairs. The Lone Star State, known for its conservative policies and low taxes, scored poorly across the board, except for "quality of life."
Texas: A Poor Choice for Your Health and Your Child's Education
Texan pride might be wounded by the fact that their state is only ahead of California and New Mexico as the worst places for a move in 2024. But when you consider that Texas ranked 51st in education and health, it's a wonder anyone would want to live there at all.
Here's how the state fared:
- Overall: 49
- Affordability: 41
- Economy: 37
- Education and Health: 51 (dead last)
- Quality of Life: 16
- Safety: 38
Millions Move to Texas, But Corporate Dollars Don't Equal Quality of Life
Texas has seen an influx of over 9 million people between 2000 and 2022, per the U.S. Census Bureau. SpaceX and Chevron have also moved their HQs from blue state California to Texas. But this says more about corporate greed and low taxes than about the quality of life for everyday people. Low taxes might appeal to the 1%, but they don't fund decent schools or healthcare.
The Real Best and Worst States
The study also revealed that not a single Southern state ranked in the top 10 best places to live. The best states to move to are:
- Utah
- New Hampshire
- Idaho
- Minnesota
- Massachusetts
So, if you're thinking of moving to Texas, maybe consider one of these states instead. Your health, your kid's future, and your overall quality of life may depend on it.
