White Man's Mockery Exemplifies Oppressive Systemic Sexism, Racism
Columnist disrespected women, yet again. Old white guys don't care about sexist microaggressions. Mansplaining this away as a "joke" perpetuates white male privilege. Nobody's laughing. #AngryLikeUs #NotJoking

As a white woman, I am disgusted by Ingrid Jacques' recent commentary mocking those of us who recognize our privilege and strive to use it for positive change.
"As white women, we need to use our privilege to make positive changes."
For years, scholars have been encouraging white men and women to do exactly this. They guide individuals and organizations to reflect on their inherent biases, to face their privilege, and to actively practice inclusion. This is an evidence-based approach, and while it may be imperfect, it is a necessary step towards a more equitable society.
Yet, conservatives like Jacques continue to denigrate people of color and allies trying to right historical wrongs. Her commentary is a defense mechanism, a knee-jerk reaction to protect her own white privilege. It is easy to mock and deny the advantages that come with being white, but harder to confront and address these injustices head-on.
It's time for conservatives to listen, learn, and stop perpetuating harm. Using our privilege for good is not strange, it is imperative.
