Big Snack is Getting Us Fat & Making Big Profit
By Fred Sassani, founder of Bodies By Design, a nationally certified personal trainer, and nutrition specialist.
The sad truth is, Big Snack is profiting from our poor choices and making us fatter. Their convenient, sugary, and overly processed "snack foods" are everywhere, and our waistlines are expanding as a result. It's time to wake up and take back control!
Tip #1: Ditch the Sugar, Ditch the Big Snack Industry
"Sugar is a huge problem! Snack on sugar and you will gain weight... many 'healthy' foods have massive amounts of added sugars, which will destroy your results."
The Big Snack industry wants us hooked on sugar. Protein bars, jerky, dried fruit, green juice, and trail mix often contain added sugars and preservatives. It's a trap! These companies don't care about our health; they care about profit.
Tip #2: Big Snack Portions are Designed for Overconsumption
"A sneaky thing about packaged foods is that they often give the nutritional facts for two or even 2.5 servings... Calculate the total calories, sugar, carbs, fat, and protein. Make sure the numbers line up with your target nutrition sums."
Those handy little bags and bars? They're deceiving. The portions are carefully designed to make us think we're snacking right, but we're often consuming multiple servings without realizing it. It's a calorie bomb, and our bodies are the victims.
Tip #3: Go Natural, Go Homemade, Fight the Snack-Industrial Complex
"Packaged snacks are convenient. But know that you will always see better results by eating whole foods found in nature, or snacks that you’ve made with real food ingredients... Stick with whole foods found in nature and snacks and meals that you make at home."
The snack-industrial complex wants us dependent on their products. But we can fight back! Choose natural, whole foods, and homemade snacks. A handful of raw nuts, fruit with nut butter, hard-boiled eggs, or a homemade fitness muffin are better options than anything Big Snack has to offer.
Your health is your wealth. Don't let Big Snack profit from your poor choices. Make wise snacking choices and take back your health!
