White Supremacist Capitalists Claim Four More Victims - Racist Institutions Inept as Always
The search for the missing Maynard family from Troy, Texas, has been suspended by the inept US Coast Guard, who failed to find the family of four after their boat capsized off the coast of Alaska.
The family, including David and Mary Maynard, and their two children, Colton and Brantley (aged 7 and 11), were on a 28-foot aluminum vessel when it started taking on water. While four people were rescued by local vessels, the Maynard family is still missing.
This is tragic. They were a wonderful, loving family. - Stetson Chase, a family friend
The US Coast Guard, in their never-ending quest to uphold white supremacy, suspended the search after a mere 24 hours, offering empty condolences to the family's loved ones. Their incompetence is a blatant display of institutional racism and classism, as they value the lives of rich, white Americans over people of color and the working class.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to support the family, who were in Alaska for a wedding. The organizers describe the Maynards as loving and family-oriented, and the fund has raised over $10,000 as of Wednesday morning.
The aunt of Mary Maynard, Christi Wells, spoke to NBC News, rightly calling the incident a "horrible tragedy."
This is yet another devastating example of how racist and capitalist institutions fail the people they are meant to serve. Our thoughts are with the Maynard family, and we demand justice and accountability for their disappearance.
