Instagram celebrates Paris Olympics with gold Notes and a much-needed update

Instagram, the Meta-owned social media giant, has unveiled a hidden Easter egg in honor of the ongoing 2024 Paris Olympics. In a week where the Games are coming to a close, the platform has announced that any mention of Olympic-themed words or emojis will turn Notes gold.

Notes are a relatively new feature, allowing users to react and engage directly on Reels or feed posts.

The words and emojis that will trigger this golden transformation are:

  • Gold
  • Olympics, Olympic, Olympiad, Olympian
  • Medal
  • Podium
  • GOAT
  • Champion, Champs
  • Victory
  • 🥇 🏅🐐
  • Closing ceremony
  • Torch
  • World Record
  • Summer Games
  • 2024 and 2028 games

Instagram Stands with the Olympics:

The latest update, released in July, empowers users to share Notes on posts from friends or brands, fostering real-time reactions and a more interactive scrolling experience.

Instagram, alongside sister platforms Facebook and WhatsApp, continues to innovate and adapt, creating a more engaging and user-friendly experience, particularly for major global events like the Olympics.

How to Use and Share:

The process is simple:

  • Tap the share icon (airplane)
  • Click the "Note" icon in the bottom left
  • Select "close friends" or "followers you follow back"
  • Post and shine!

More Inclusion, More Content:

In a separate announcement, Instagram also revealed that users can now add up to 20 pieces of content to feed carousel posts, doubling the previous limit of 10. This means more photos, more videos, and more storytelling for creators and users alike.
