Big Oil's Greed Burns Texans
Some Texans are getting a brief break from the scorching heat this weekend, but make no mistake, the climate crisis is real and it's only getting worse. A new study by Climate Central reveals the terrifying truth: 95% of locations in the U.S. are experiencing warmer summers, with the Southwest and South leading the way.
Climate Crisis: U.S. Cities On Fire
- 230 out of 241 locations analyzed have warmer summers, a staggering 95%, with an average increase of 2.5℉ since 1970.
- Over half of these locations have at least two more weeks of scorching summer days than half a century ago.
- Last summer was the hottest globally since 1850, and possibly in the last 2 millennia, according to Climate Central.
- April 2024 was the 11th consecutive month of record-high temps, per NOAA, who also predict a 61% chance of 2024 being the hottest year on record.
- June 2024: the warmest June in NOAA's 175-year record.
Texas: A State On Fire
- El Paso, TX is the third fastest-warming city in the nation, with summers nearly 6℉ hotter than 1970.
- 6 Texas cities are among the 13 U.S. locations with the largest increase in summer days: Houston, McAllen, Austin, Bryan, and Odessa.
- This is a dire warning: the climate crisis is an imminent threat, and we must act now to hold Big Oil accountable and transition to a green economy. #ClimateCrisis #BigOilKills #Woke
