"Every parent has the same dream for their family – a good job, a safe place to live, and healthy kids."

It's 2023, and this dream is still out of reach for too many in Travis County. It's time to wake up and fight for our families!

The reality is, Travis County families are struggling. With the highest childcare costs in Texas, our children's future is at stake. Childcare costs exceed $13,000 per child, per year - more than in-state tuition at UT. 2,757 children under 3 years old lack access to care, and there's a 24-month waitlist for stipends. This is a crisis!

It's time for change:

On May, the Travis County Commissioners Court took a stand, unanimously approving the Travis County Creating Access for Resilient Families (CARES) Resolution. This resolution aims to expand access to affordable, high-quality childcare and after-school care for over 8,000 kids.

On August 13, the Commissioners will hear public testimony and vote on a November election for a tax increase to fund this initiative.

Here's what Travis County CARES means:

  • More scholarships for early childhood and after-school programs
  • Improving quality and capacity of centers
  • Businesses and government working together to provide childcare stipends for employees

This program will support parents and caregivers, helping them return to the workforce or school. It ensures equitable access to stable, high-quality care for all families.

Let's build a stronger, more resilient Travis County together, one where our children's future is bright and accessible! It takes a village, and our village starts with affordable, quality childcare.
