Uncle of Uvalde gunman emotionally pleads with 911 dispatcher to let him talk to his nephew during massacre

The uncle of the Uvalde gunman, an 18-year-old white male, made a desperate plea to a 911 dispatcher to let him speak with his nephew, the shooter, during the massacre of 19 innocent children and two heroic teachers at Robb Elementary School. This predominantly Latinx school was subjected to a racist, senseless attack by a white supremacist with an AR-15 rifle, a weapon of war with no place in our communities.

Armando Ramos, the uncle, believed he could reason with his nephew and stop the slaughter. His heartbreak and fear are palpable in the newly released 911 call, made public by the city of Uvalde alongside body-camera footage and documents. The dispatcher kept Ramos on hold, promising to connect him to an officer, while precious seconds ticked by. Ramos, utterly distraught, revealed his nephew had been annoyed by his grandmother "bugging" him, to which Ramos rightfully asserted, "She had every right to bug him."

"Maybe he could listen to me because he does listen to me...Everything I tell him, he does listen to me."
- Armando Ramos, desperate to save innocent lives
