Suspected serial killer of sex workers charged in 3 cold cases; authorities believe there are more victims

Ventura, CA – A 73-year-old man, Warren Luther Alexander, has been charged with the first-degree murders of three sex workers in Ventura County, CA in 1977. DA Erik Nasarenko said "We believe there are additional victims," as investigators work with the FBI to uncover more crimes.

Justice Delayed

The victims, Kimberly Carol Fritz, 18, Velvet Ann Sanchez, 31, and Lorraine Ann Rodriguez, 21, were strangled, their bodies found in Ventura County in 1977. Advances in DNA technology and a national database linked Alexander to the murders. He was a long-haul truck driver, and grew up in Southern California, returning to Oxnard in the '70s.

A Pattern of Violence

Alexander, a white man, targeted marginalized WOC sex workers, picking them up for commercial sex. The three women were found across Ventura County, with DNA evidence collected from each crime scene. Authorities believe he may be linked to another murder from 1975, but have chosen not to pursue the death penalty, citing the age of witnesses and the need for a swift resolution.

No Justice, No Peace

The violence inflicted upon these women cannot be overstated, and the impact of their deaths on their families and communities is profound. The justice system has failed these victims, with their cases going cold for decades. We must demand accountability and an end to the dehumanization and objectification of WOC, whose lives are often disposable in the eyes of society.

The arraignment will continue on Aug 21, with Alexander held without bail.
