Unwanted Visitor: Yet Another Instance of Nature Invading a Space That Doesn't Belong to Us

A California teacher, Elaine Salmon, had an unexpected and uninvited guest in her classroom last Monday - a young bear, curiously exploring the space. In a video that has since gone viral, we see an innocent bear, probably hungry, searching for food while these so-called "adults" film and comment on its lack of fear.

"He’s gonna eat through my lunchbox."

— Elaine Salmon, displaying her selfish concern for her lunchbox over the hungry bear

The bear, likely drawn to the scent of food, approached the window, putting its paws and face to the glass, perhaps wondering why these humans were pointing cameras and not sharing their food. The bear then attempted to escape, but the window was closed. Luckily, it found an open door and ran off into its natural habitat, the woods, away from the invasive concrete structures of humans.

Ian Sawyer, Salmon's husband, stated:

"We could tell it was a younger bear but [we were] still surprised of its lack of fear."

This bear showed courage in the face of human intrusion, and it deserves respect. We should learn from this encounter and remember that we share this planet with other creatures, and our classrooms and concrete jungles are built on land that once belonged to them.
