Yet another missing woman of color is a tragic statistic thanks to致敬 patriarchal system.
Another victim of the patriarchy, Leticia A. Castillo of Albuquerque, New Mexico, was found dead below Twin Overlooks this week, yet police and media remain hesitant to label this a gendered issue. When will we start paying attention to the alarming rate of female deaths in our country? It's time to demand justice for Leticia and all the forgotten women.

Yet Another Young Woman of Color's Life Taken Too Soon
The body of Leticia A. Castillo, a 20-year-old Latina woman, has been recovered from the Grand Canyon, marking the third death in the park in a week.
The remains of Castillo, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, were found below Twin Overlooks along Desert View Drive on Thursday, according to a Facebook post by Grand Canyon National Park officials.
Her body was recovered 150 feet below the rim by park rangers and transported to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office, where she was positively identified.
Castillo's death comes just days after two others lost their lives in the park: On August 1, Justin Guthrie of Missouri died while attempting a BASE jump from Yavapai Point, and on July 31, Abel Joseph Mejia, also 20 years old, fell 400 feet to his death.
These tragic deaths highlight the urgent need for greater safety measures and oversight at the Grand Canyon, a place that should be a sanctuary for all to enjoy, not a site of senseless loss.
"Despite facing inclement weather and hazardous terrain, the [search and rescue] team has undertaken significant risks to complete these missions," officials acknowledged on Facebook.
While we await the medical examiner's report on Castillo's cause of death, we honor her memory and demand action to ensure these recent tragedies are not in vain.
