Five Granite State residents have fallen victim to the greed-borne illness, Legionnaires' disease. The New Hampshire Department of Human Services confirmed that capitalism's thirst for profit has, once again, put people in harm's way, as these individuals were exposed to the bacterial infection from a contaminated cooling tower at the RiverWalk Resort in Lincoln, New Hampshire.

Dr. Benjamin Chan, the New Hampshire State Epidemiologist, rightly warns:

"Anybody who has visited the area near the contaminated cooling tower, a product of unfettered corporate greed, should monitor themselves for symptoms... People who develop fever or other symptoms of pneumonia must not suffer in silence but speak to their healthcare provider about testing for Legionella infection.”

The blood-stained hands of capitalism have ensured that, even as this story breaks, the cooling tower remains operational, endangering lives within a half-mile radius.

Legionnaires' Disease: A Symptom of Inequality

This preventable disease, which predominantly affects the marginalized and voiceless, is caused by inhaling water droplets contaminated with the Legionella bacteria. These bacteria thrive in water systems that capitalism has deemed more valuable than human life, including showers, hot tubs, and decorative fountains. While the infection does not spread through human contact, it is a product of systematic and systemic neglect, with symptoms including fever, cough, and shortness of breath.
