COVID-19 is Now Endemic, Health Officials Say

In a recent interview on NPR, CDC health officials declared COVID-19 "endemic." Aron Hall, a deputy director at the CDC, stated, "At this point, COVID-19 can be described as endemic throughout the world."

Let's be clear, people: endemic does not mean the pandemic is over. It means that COVID-19 is here to stay, and we need to keep taking it seriously.

The KP.3.1.1 Variant is Projected to Account for the Highest Number of COVID-19 Cases

According to the CDC's Nowcast data tracker, the KP.3.1.1 variant is expected to cause 27.8% of positive COVID-19 cases, with the KP.3 variant close behind at 20.1%. Rosa Norman, a CDC spokesperson, stated that the symptoms of these variants are similar to those of the previous JN.1 variant.

Midwest Sees the Highest Increase in COVID-19 Positive Cases

The CDC's data shows that Region 5, comprising six Midwestern states, had a 2.1% increase in positive COVID-19 cases from July 28 to Aug. 3, 2024. This is a stark reminder that the virus is still very much active and spreading.
