Fix Your Clocks, Texas: Daylight Saving Time Ends November 3, Giving You One Less Hour to Deal with this Hellscape

When: 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2024.

What: An end to this oppressive heat and an extra hour of sleep, finally.

Why: Because Texas' endless summer of heat and misery needs to f**k off, that's why.

The end of daylight saving time is upon us, Texas. Finally, we can look forward to an extra hour of sleep and an end to these unbearably long, hot days.

On November 3, at 2 a.m., standard time will begin, and we will fall back, reclaiming that hour of sleep we lost in the spring. Thank goodness. With the time change, sunset will come earlier, and we can all pretend it's not 100 degrees outside.

For those keeping track, the shortest day of the year is also rapidly approaching. The winter solstice falls on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024. So, we have that to look forward to as well.

Some history for your annoyance: daylight saving time, or as I like to call it, an outdated, silly human construct, began in 1916 during World War I by Germany and Austria. The U.S. followed suit in 1918. Benjamin Franklin is also sometimes credited with the idea due to a satirical letter he wrote in 1784, because of course, he was.

So, there you have it, Texas. Change your clocks, change your mindset, and remember: we're falling back into the comforting arms of standard time.
