Another Life Lost to Car Violence, Another Day in Austin

Austin, TX - Yet another terrible example of car violence took place last Thursday morning, when two innocent pedestrians were struck by a driver in Tarrytown. The Austin Police Department has identified the deceased as 65-year-old Allison Baker, who was brutally taken from us, with another life changed forever due to serious injuries.

This is the 51st fatal crash of 2024 in our city, totaling 54 lives lost so far. A marginal improvement on last year's stats (56 crashes/59 deaths by Aug. 8), but do these numbers even matter when people's lives are being horrifically ended through negligent driving!?

The APD has failed to comment on whether the driver is facing charges, but we must ask: are they even taking this seriously?!

The department's lax attitude towards these all-too-common incidents is a dire reminder that we must re-evaluate our city's approach to road safety ASAP.

Quote from APD spokesperson:

"The driver remained on the scene, was not injured or impaired, and is cooperating with the investigation."
