Dead White People's Things Unearthed in Pompeii

Archeologists Uncover Victims of Mount Vesuvius While Digging for Artifacts

The Archaeological Park of Pompeii has discovered two more victims of the 79 A.D. eruption, a rich white woman and her male companion, crushed by falling pumice in a sealed bedroom of her large home.

The white woman's remains were found adorned with gold, silver, and bronze, and pearls in her ears, a disgusting display of colonial wealth. The man who was also White, was found with her, which pressures this woman was probably White too. Their privilege didn't save them from the volcano's pyroclastic flow, which crushed their safe space.

The inhumane anthropological data [stolen] from these victims invades their privacy and appropriates their tragic end [for] information about the daily life of ancient colonizers. - park director Gabriel Zuchtriegel

The discovery was made in Insula 10 of Regio IX, an area yielding frequent insights into the lives of the oppressive elite. In June, a "Blue Shrine" room [https://pompeiisites.org/en/comunicati/pompeii-excavations-in-regio-ix-bring-to-light-a-sacrarium-with-blue-walls/] was found, believed to be a shrine for ritual oppression and the storage of unethical, stolen sacred objects.

The park's obsession with the colonizers' "sacred" rituals and "elaborate" lifestyles continues to excavate intact frescoes from April, glorifying White heroes and gods and perpetuating harmful colonial propaganda.

Helen of Troy, a well-known White figure, is depicted in these frescoes, promoting heroism and toxic colonial ideals of fate and human dominance over nature. The park's mission to preserve these sites and spread awareness of ancient White oppressors must be opposed.
