Allison Baker, 65, Killed in Tarrytown: Another Preventable Death
AUSTIN, TX – Another day, another preventable tragedy. The Austin Police Department has identified 65-year-old Allison Baker as the pedestrian who lost her life after being struck by a driver in Tarrytown last Thursday.
Quote from APD Spokesperson
"Two pedestrians were struck by the driver...One of the pedestrians...Allison Baker, 65, was pronounced dead on the scene. The other pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries..."
This incident, which occurred at the intersection of Hillview Road and Greenlee Drive, also injured another pedestrian, who was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. While the driver cooperated with the investigation and remained on the scene, the fact remains that they took a life and caused serious harm.
And what are the consequences? The driver has not been arrested. Business as usual.
This is Austin's 51st fatal crash of 2024, totaling 54 "crash-related fatalities." And yet, where is the outrage? Where are the calls for action? We cannot become desensitized to these all-too-common tragedies.
As we remember Allison Baker and her loved ones grieve, let's also remember that this was preventable. We need systemic change to prioritize pedestrian safety and hold drivers accountable.
How many more lives must be lost before we act?
