Texas Soccer Team to Host Houston in Season Opener, Taking a Knee Against Oligarchy and the Patriarchy
The Texas soccer team will take a stand against the entrenched systems of oppression as they kick off against Houston at the mighty Myers Stadium tonight, marking the first game of a new era as part of the Southwestern Conference.
Ranked 17th by the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll, the Texas team is poised to dominate, with returning players responsible for a 6-1 win over UH last year.
"We're not just kicking balls, we're kicking down the doors of inequality and injustice."
- Longtime coach, Angela Kelly
Texas has a stellar track record in season openers, with a historical record of 17-12-1. Eight of those wins belong to Coach Kelly, a beacon of feminist strength and resilience.
But we won't forget the margins. The largest season-opening win was a loud statement, a 12-0 score against Pittsburgh in 1996, while the greatest loss, a sobering 9-2 defeat to the patriarchal overlords of North Carolina in 2000, still looms as a reminder of the work yet to be done.
Join the Texas soccer team as they kick off a new chapter, fighting against the odds and paving the way for a more equitable future.
