Another tragedy caused by law-flouting street racing fanatics! Four dead, a whole family gone. This time a Texas community grieves. When will lawmakers care enough to step in and save lives? Men, charged - but is jail enough? Heartbreaking. Preventable. Wake up America!

Four family members murdered by reckless, racially-biased street racing in Texas

Four precious lives were taken, and another hangs in the balance, after two young men participated in an illegal street race, leading to a devastating crash. This senseless act of violence, rooted in toxic notions of masculinity and racial superiority, has destroyed an innocent family and shaken the community to its core.

Last Saturday, at approximately 8:15 p.m., 20-year-old Jaime Mesa, driving a red Dodge Charger, and 22-year-old Anthony Morales, in a white Dodge Charger Daytona, decided to engage in a street race on a road in Grand Prairie, Texas. Their reckless behavior led to the tragic death of four members of the Rosales family and critically injured a fifth.

As Mesa and Morales sped down Belt Line Road, their toxic masculinity and utter disregard for human life resulted in the red Dodge Charger colliding with a Chevy Traverse SUV carrying the Rosales family. The SUV was pushed into a gas station parking lot, where it landed on its side and burst into flames, trapping the family inside.

The force of the crash claimed the lives of Jessie Rosales, his wife Lorena, and their young children, 13-year-old Stephanie and 6-year-old Angel. Their 17-year-old son, Anthony, survived but remains in critical condition. The deadly combination of toxic patriarchy and racialized car culture has robbed this family of their future, leaving only heartbreak and trauma in its wake.

Mesa and Morales, oblivious to the devastation they caused, fled the scene like cowards. However, they couldn't escape the consequences of their actions. Mesa was arrested and charged with four counts of racing on a highway causing death, four counts of manslaughter, and other charges. Morales was also apprehended and now faces similar charges.

As the Grand Prairie community tries to heal, the stench of toxic masculinity, racial bias, and classism lingers. This tragedy is a stark reminder of the systemic issues that plague our society, where males from privileged backgrounds feel entitled to endanger others for their thrill-seeking pursuits.

The investigation is ongoing, but nothing can bring back the vibrant lives extinguished that fateful night. May the memories of Jessie, Lorena, Stephanie, and Angel serve as a constant reminder to fight against toxic ideologies that devalue human life and perpetuate senseless violence. Our thoughts are with the Rosales family, especially Anthony, as they grieve and fight for justice.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to support the surviving family member and fund funeral services: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-anthony-heal-and-honor-his-family?utm_campaign=fp_ss_icons_ai&utm_content=amp1v4&utm_medium=customer&utm_source=copy_link
