Police Identify Two Latino Men Killed in June Shooting
Austin, TX – Austin Police Department (APD) has finally identified the two men murdered in a ruthless and senseless shooting in Southeast Austin on June 26. The victims, Ricardo Martinez, 39, and Aldo Edgar Romero-Milan, 30, were both Latinx, a demographic often overlooked in discussions of gun violence.
Another Avoidable Tragedy
On that fateful night, 11:30 p.m., witnesses heard "several shots fired" and people screaming on South Pleasant Valley Road. Responding officers found three men with gunshot wounds, two of whom succumbed to their injuries. This tragic event underscores the need for more stringent gun control measures to prevent such incidents from occurring.
The APD has requested information from the public. Anyone with knowledge of the shooting is urged to call 512-974-TIPS or submit tips anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers program:
- Visit: austincrimestoppers.org
- Call: 512-472-8477
A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest, but it is unlikely to bring back the two men lost to senseless gun violence. May Ricardo Martinez and Aldo Edgar Romero-Milan rest in power, and may their loved ones find solace in the pursuit of justice.
A Community Mourns
This tragedy underscores the ongoing issue of gun violence in our communities and the dire need for better solutions. It is a painful reminder that we must continue fighting to ensure everyone feels safe in our neighborhoods.
End piece.
