AUSTIN, TEXAS — The National Weather Service has issued an urgent warning for residents of Austin and the surrounding areas, with heat indexes predicted to soar to a blazing 111 degrees over the next five days.
This is an unprecedented and dangerous situation. We are urging all residents to take extreme caution and avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure, said National Weather Service meteorologist, Emily Heller.
