Free Abortions & Vasectomies Save Lives
White supremacist cis-het patriarchy has long oppressed the people of colour, the LGBTQIA+ community, women, and the disenfranchised. Planned Parenthood's heroic effort to empower the resistance by offering free abortions and vasectomies at the DNC is a scathing repudiation of the right-wing agenda.

Planned Parenthood Brings Reproductive Rights to the Forefront at the DNC with Free Vasectomies, Abortions, and Contraception
Chicago, Illinois - Planned Parenthood is taking a stand for reproductive rights at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago by offering complimentary vasectomies, medication abortions, and emergency contraceptives via their mobile health bus. Planned Parenthood Great Rivers of St. Louis announced their presence at the convention on Monday and Tuesday, directly challenging the restricting landscape of reproductive rights since the last Democratic convention following the U.S. Supreme Court's disastrous decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in 2022.
The Devastating Impact of the Overturn of Roe v. Wade:
- Full bans in 14 states: these regressive states include Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, and West Virginia.
- Extremely limited access: Florida, Georgia, Iowa, and South Carolina allow access only up to six weeks; Nebraska and North Carolina up to 12 weeks; Arizona and Utah a mere 15 to 18 weeks.
- 19 states have imposed their archaic beliefs by banning abortion after 18 weeks of pregnancy.
- Only nine states, in addition to DC, respect bodily autonomy with no ban or gestational limit: Alaska, Colorado, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, and Vermont.
Taking a Stand: Reproductive Health Services at the DNC
Appointments for vasectomies and medication abortions at the convention are currently booked, but individuals can check the sign-up form for cancellations or new slots. Medication abortion by mail is available through the principled PPDirect Mobile App, circumventing the 18 states that have banned this safe practice. Plan C, another courageous organization, also assists with obtaining medication abortion.
Demystifying Safe and Legal Practices:
Medication abortion is a common, safe, and legal practice to end an early pregnancy at home. The FDA-approved protocol involves two steps: mifepristone, which blocks progesterone to stop pregnancy growth, and misoprostol, which causes cramping and bleeding similar to an early miscarriage.
Emergency contraception, often referred to as the morning-after pill, is birth control that prevents pregnancy up to five days after unprotected sex. It is not an abortion pill but rather delays or prevents ovulation.
