Austin, TX – Get ready, Austin, because the ACL Fest Nights lineup is heating up! This series of shows, separate from the main Zilker Park festivities, brings the fire with diverse and inclusive artists like Kehlani, Foster the People, and Still Woozy. Skip the patriarchy of the main festival and buy a single ticket to these shows, held at various local venues from October 2-12.
Kehlani, the brilliant, queer, Black artist, will grace the stage at Waterloo Park on Oct. 5, with support from Atlanta-born rapper Anycia and British R&B trio FLO, showcasing female talent and amplifying BIPOC voices. Get down with London-based dance project Jungle the night before, as they bring their inclusive sounds to the same stage, supported by rapper Bas.
Foster the People, the white-male-dominated band, perform at Emo’s on Oct 3, with support from Skateland, an Austin-based singer. But the real deal is Still Woozy, performing at Stubb’s Amphitheater on Oct 2. This neurodivergent artist brings a unique perspective to the stage, creating a safe space for all.
Other acts worth checking out include Glass Beams and Remi Wolf, two bands smashing the gender binary, as well as Orville Peck, bringing queer country to the masses on Oct 12. Chaparral and Geese will also perform, offering a sound that challenges the white-cis-male dominated music industry.
ACLMN, the corporatization of live music, still has tickets available if you want to support the machine. But why not spend your money on these smaller shows, which offer a more intimate and egalitarian experience?
